Venezuela-Colombia: Chavez ready to meet with Santos and "turn the page"

Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez said he was prepared Saturday to meet the new Colombian president Juan Manuel Santos and "turn the page" in the diplomatic crisis between the two countries for two weeks.

"I'm ready to move on and look towards the future. I'm ready, President Santos" Chavez said in a televised address.

The Venezuelan head of state said he had asked his Foreign Minister Nicolas Maduro warned Sunday of Mariangela Holguin Colombian counterpart's desire to meet "face to face" the President Santos in Caracas or Bogota.

"If he (Santos) can come in the next three or four days, I am willing to travel to Colombia for a meeting," he said. "I am full of good faith, hope and desire to work with the new president of Colombia," Chavez said.

Maduro and Ms. Holguin must meet Sunday in the Colombian capital, according to the Venezuelan president.

In his inaugural speech Saturday in Bogota, Juan Manuel Santos had wanted a "frank and direct dialogue" with Venezuela "as quickly as possible" after the break in late July by the country's diplomatic relations with Colombia.

Caracas broke off July 22 diplomatic relations with its neighbor after the presentation to the Organization of American States (OAS) to "evidence" establishing on Bogota Colombian presence of some 1,500 guerrillas of the FARC (Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia, Marxists) Venezuela.

Hugo Chávez has tried these and found them false documents showing intentions "warriors" of outgoing President Alvaro Uribe ordered the same troop deployments to the border.

Friday he announced, however, less than 24 hours before the ceremony that his Foreign Minister Nicolas Maduro attend the inauguration of his Colombian counterpart.
