Naomi Campbell: Blood Diamonds recovered

On 5 August, the British supermodel Naomi Campbell has been heard by the Special Court for Sierra Leone in The Hague in the Netherlands in the trial of former Liberian President Charles Taylor. On September 26, 1997, the dictator, newly elected, would have offered the famous model of diamonds, called "blood diamonds" that would have come into the possession stoking civil war in Sierra Leone (1992-2002). Indeed, Charles Taylor would have supplied weapons to the rebel Revolutionary United Front of Sierra Leone in exchange for diamonds. Recall that this armed conflict has killed more than 120,000 people.

Naomi Campbell said she had received the diamonds, but she does not know who had offered. "She is still indeed never worried because she receives" gifts all the time, at any hour of the night. Sometimes without even a word. During his time in court, she explained that she had given these few "tiny stone dirty" Jeremy Ratcliffe, of Mandela Fund for Children's Aid. If the organization has sent a letter to the court stating "never having been in possession of these diamonds, Jeremy Ratcliffe he has recovered the stones. "Three small diamonds were given to me by Naomi Campbell in the Blue Train (luxury train linking Johannesburg and Cape Town, ed) September 26, 1997," he said. But not wanting to involve the funds in any illegal activity, he "finally decided to keep".

Diamonds have been brought to justice, which continues its course.

Charles Taylor must answer 11 charges. He is tried for crimes including war crimes and against humanity. He faces life in prison.
