Fires in Russia: Moscow flights delayed, persistent concerns for health

Dozens of flights were delayed and concerns about public health grew Sunday to Moscow because of the persistent smoke due to peat fires.

Famous buildings in the Russian capital as the Kremlin towers and the skyscrapers of the Stalinist era remained completely invisible at a distance and breathe polluted air in recent days not dissipated at all.

Motorists were circulating all lights on in broad daylight and, according to ITAR-TASS, serious disturbances were reported at Domodedovo International Airport, where some 2,000 passengers were stranded.

Domodedovo, south of Moscow, was the airport most affected by spray tan with dozens of flights delayed at the start and only a handful of planes able to land, according to information panels.

"Passengers should be warned that delays are inevitable," said Sergei television Izvolsky of the National Commission for Aviation Rosaviatsia, indicating that these delays can vary from 30 minutes to several hours.

Other international airports in Moscow, Sheremetyevo and Vnukovo north east, they too were facing delays, although the impact of smog seemed to be less serious.

Muscovites were trying to flee levels of carbon monoxide at least 6 times higher than normal by simply leaving Russia. Travel agencies have sold out very quickly and stays organized for this weekend in Egypt and Montenegro.

According to the Russian meteorological service, the smoke will not dissipate until Wednesday.

The Emergency Situations Ministry said the fire continued to spread in west, forecasters had expected no sign of respite in the coming days for the heat wave unprecedented strikes Russia for more than one month .

Saturday, 193,500 hectares were on fire. According to official figures, 52 people died in fires that have devastated villages.
